New Zealand: day 10 - Christchurch & Lyttleton

Not a cloud in the sky today in Christchurch!  I started the day by returning to the airport to pick up some snow chains (we might need them as we drive further south).  Then we headed off for another day of adventure.  First stop was the gondola ride up to the top of the mountain that separates Christchurch from Lyttleton.  The ride didn't take long, and from the top we could see all of Christchurch laid out before us and also the tiny town of Lyttleton on the other side.

After we descended from the gondola, we headed into Lyttleton to see the town.  We had briefly considered getting an airbnb in Lyttleton, so I wanted to see the cuteness of the town.  It's over the ridge from Christchurch but feels 50 miles away.  To get there, we drove through a 2km tunnel bored through the mountain, and when we emerged, we were in a town that had big industry on the coast, and a lovely main drag.  We ate lunch in a little pub called Civil & Naval, and wandered through the shops for an hour or so before heading back into Christchurch.

Once back into town, we headed into the CBD to do a little shopping.  S wanted to pick up some long underwear for our down-south travels, and I wandered through town, snapping photos of all of the murals and street art.

We met up later that afternoon to do an escape room! This one was themed on an artist losing his love of art.  We had to help him find his inspiration.  The good news is that we were successful!  Now we'll have more art in the world!

By the end of the escape room, H & S were pooped.  We walked back to our airbnb and settled in for a dinner of leftovers, supplemented by some nachos from a nearby Mexican restaurant.
