Day 7: Hiking in Hondarriba

The heat dissipated with a thunderstorm overnight, but the flies were still in full force this morning when we got up.  I put up some flypaper which was very successful (and gross).  B and I ran into town for pastries, but most of the morning was pretty chill.  C played with the girls in the dewey grass, and we snacked on serrano ham, manchego, and baguette.

When it was time to get going, C/B/A/O/H and I headed off in one car for Hondarriba to do some exploring and hiking.  Hondarriba is a seaside town near the french border, a key point on the Camino de Santiago and with lots of mountaintop vistas.  We first stopped at a lighthouse near the coast, up on a cliff's edge.

We ate lunch, explored, and then paused for juice and ice cream with the girls before we got back into the car and ended up in the small town of Fuenterriba, checking out the Fuerte de Guadalupe.  We weren't able to see the excavation, but the grounds were pretty lovely:

After that, we headed further up the mountain, where we found a lovely turnout/vista that had a beautiful view of Hondarriba, a field with horses, and happened to be along the Camino de Santiago.  We paused for photos, and H and her Pa got a lovely photo and snuggles on the mountaintop.

After that, the day was getting late, so we hair-pinned down the mountain and zipped back to Getaria.  S, C, and I went into town to pick up pintxos for dinner, and we had a relaxing evening at the house talking about the next day's plans.
